Atletico Madrid has swooped in and is looking to offer Depay a new home. The Netherlands star has also reportedly missed FC Barcelona’s training session, as he looks to force a move away from Spotify Camp Nou. With the 28-year-old out of contract at the end of the season, Barcelona will also be keen to get as much as they can in this transfer window.

Manchester United and Arsenal seemed to be interested but it seems as if the Los Colchoneros have won the race, having agreed to a £2.6million fee with Barcelona. This is quite less than the £6.1m fee that Barcelona was asking, but the Catalan club will be happy to recoup some amount on a free transfer. He is set to sign a two-and-a-half-year deal with Atletico.

Barcelona was looking at including Yannick Carrasco in a swap deal but Atletico didn’t want to lose out on their forward. The Belgian’s agent, Pini Zahavi, spoke about this swap deal too. He said, ‘The plan is to trade Yannick for Memphis. There is nothing concrete yet, nor do I know if it will work, but negotiations are ongoing. Yannick likes Barca and is a good player.’

But now, it seems as though both parties have agreed to complete this deal without the use of any additional players. It will be interesting to see how Depay fares at Atletico under Diego Simeone.
