Mauricio Pochettino was already in Chelsea’s plan two weeks back when he had a verbal agreement with the club. Chelsea appointed Frank Lampard as interim manager and his charge will over on Sunday with a final game of the season at Stamford Bridge against Newcastle United.
Chelsea saw new ownership last year and under Todd Boehly, the Blues sacked two managers in a single season. In September 2022, they sacked Thomas Tuchel and in April 2023, Graham Potter saw his departure from Stamford Bridge amid the poor form of the club.
Chelsea would have appointed a new manager when they sacked Graham Potter but they showed faith in Lampard to take the job for the remainder of the season and give a fresh opportunity to a new manager. Mauricio Pochettino remained the priority for the club due to his past success.
Pochettino will have a tough task to rebuild Chelsea’s mindset which is totally shattered following a terrible Premier League campaign. They are going to finish in the bottom half of the table and also be eliminated from Europe next season. Pochettino have also discussed the summer transfer plans and he will be active from the next week to construct a solid Chelsea squad that can fight for its previous glory in 2023/24.
Earlier, Man United legend Gary Neville spoke about the new Chelsea manager, “He (Pochettino ) did it at Tottenham where he refined the squad back from where it was and weeded out the players that he didn’t want very quickly and was clinical around that and then worked around a very talented group of players that he developed into a real fantastic team.”
