After just one season at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino left the team with mutual consent. On July 1st, 52-year-old Pochettino took over as Chelsea’s manager. He signed a two-year contract with a one-year option.
The Argentine was under pressure following a lackluster first half of the season, but they finished sixth in the Premier League thanks to a run of five straight victories towards the end of the campaign. Chelsea advanced to the FA Cup semifinals and finished second in the Carabao Cup.
“Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and sporting directors for the opportunity. The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come,” Pochettino said in a statement.
No way home for Pochettino
As they look for a replacement, Chelsea have recently shown interest in Vincent Kompany of Burnley, Ruben Amorim of Sporting, and Kieran McKenna of Ipswich.
