Mount was benched for Chelsea’s season-ending 1-1 draw with Newcastle at Stamford Bridge and has been linked to exits. The 24-year-old Chelsea player has just one year left on his contract, and Manchester United and Liverpool are thought to be leading the chase for him. United has identified him and Harry Kane as two of its top targets.

Chelsea executives are willing to sell one of their most precious assets before Mount reaches the last year of his contract, but the club has not given up on keeping Mount despite Pochettino’s efforts to keep the England international.

In the midst of intense rumours over his future, the England international has given a message to Blues fans. He discussed Chelsea’s challenging season, in which they ended 12th and had three managers, in a post on Instagram.

Mount said: “It’s fair to say it’s been an up and down season, but your support has never dipped. Travelling all around the country, you were with us every step of the way and at times we didn’t deserve you. But now it’s time to have a break and recover… Thank you & enjoy your summer Blues.”
