Mason Mount: It is building up to be a very busy transfer window this time around. Clubs are going around trying to get their hands on the best talent that’s out there. In this case, Chelsea seems to be losing out on their talent, Mason Mount. The English midfielder is destined to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. It has been reported that he would like to remain in the Premier League. It seems as though Mount is inching closer toward moving to Manchester United, than Arsenal in the upcoming transfer window. According to rumours, Mason Mount is “leaning” toward Manchester United as his preferred next team. It follows reports that United was preparing a £55 million offer for the 24-year-old this summer.

According to The Athletic, Mount is “leaning” toward a move to Old Trafford as talks between Chelsea and Manchester United are about to start. Also rumored to be aware of the England international’s desire are competing suitors Arsenal, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich.

Since Mount’s contract at Stamford Bridge is slated to expire next season, he has been putting off signing a new one. Prior to Chelsea’s Thursday match against the Red Devils at Old Trafford, Blues manager Frank Lampard stayed mum over Mount’s future.

Lampard said, ‘I don’t know [his future]. That’s not my answer to make. That’s between Mason and the club. It’s not final at this point and we’ll have to see because those conversations are ongoing.’

He continued, ‘It’s a shame for me personally because I think everyone knows how I feel about working with Mason and I like to think he feels the same about me, and we could have done with him in the games we’ve played already this season. But the bigger picture is something that’s going to become clearer in the next weeks and months, and that will be the club and Mason together having conversations.’

Mason Mount to United?

According to reports, Mauricio Pochettino, the incoming manager of Chelsea, wants Mount to continue working on his proposal. Chelsea is hoping that by doing this, the Cobham Academy graduate will come to believe that West London is where he belongs.

Despite United’s desire, a deal cannot be concretely implemented until the ongoing ownership dispute is addressed. Mount is also not United’s primary priority; instead, Erik ten Hag’s team is in desperate need of a new striker and a center defense.

This season, the inventive midfielder has had trouble staying in shape and playing well. Indeed, Mount’s performance in the Premier League was well below average with just three goals and two assists, but he added four assists in the Champions League.

The Blues’ midfielder has been a shadow of his former self this season. But, that also boils down to the fact that Chelsea was abysmal this season and never quite got going at all.
