The only player currently out for Marseille manager Igor Tudor this weekend is defender Samuel Gigot, although Matteo Guendouzi and Ruslan Malinovskyi are expected to make adjustments to his starting lineup. Less than the permitted nine, Marseille only has seven reserve players available.
Azzedine Ounahi, a recent addition to the team who had made his first start for Marseille, was demoted to the bench while Guendouzi was promoted to a more advanced position. Also not starting is Dimitri Payet, which is not surprising given his lacklustre performance this season and two straight games as a substitute.

Achraf Hakimi, Renato Sanches, and Marquinhos, a defensive duo who were not risked in last weekend’s 4-3 home victory over Lille, should be back for the guests. Neymar, though, is injured, and Achraf Hakimi is also out. Neymar is out with yet another ankle problem sustained against Lille last weekend. Hugo Ekitike, will now be on the bench as Christophe Galtier opts to play a 3-5-2 formation with an additional midfielder. Together with projected starters Marco Verratti and Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha joins the lineup.

La Classique is one of the most heated rivalries in France, but it’s understandable if PSG has its sights set on the Champions League matchup with Bayern Munich in ten days. Even so, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi put on a show at the Stadium Velodrome to defeat Marseille’s archrivals Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 without the Parisians seeming to be caught looking at the calendar. Messi added a third goal, and Mbappe won a brace for his efforts. Together, they had an outstanding performance.
Although PSG entered the game in terrible form and with a five-point lead over their opponents in the Ligue 1 standings, they were aware that any further dips could endanger their chances of winning the domestic title. They were careful not to falter, extending the Ligue 1 advantage to eight points before the end of the game.

Marseille actually had a strong opening, battering the PSG defence, but Mbappe’s goal from Messi’s counterattack ended that, and PSG went on to win easily. Messi’s goal, his first Le Classique goal, was also his 700th club goal of his legendary career. Mbappe’s second goal tied Edinson Cavani for the most goals scored by a PSG player in club history.
Presnel Kimpembe’s premature departure from the game in the first 20 minutes with what appeared to be a problematic non-contact injury was the only unfavourable development for PSG. It’s frightening to think that another defender may be sidelined for an extended period of time for PSG after Kimpembe was seen using crutches on the team’s sideline in the second half. The club’s defensive ranks are already depleted.
