Ugarte played for Sporting CP in the Portuguese league, making 31 league appearances. He was the main man in the defensive midfield for his club, which attracted many big clubs. According to reports, PSG were ready to offer 5 million euros per season to the 22-year-old, but he agreed to join Chelsea, where he will receive around 3.5 million euros per season plus bonuses.
This is mainly because, PSG have Verrarti as their main man in midfield, which might have reduced Ugarte’s game time. Manchester United are also doing well with Casemiro and have multiple options for replacement. However, at Chelsea, the 22-year-old might find himself directly into the team. Chelsea’s main man ahead of the defensive line, who was Ngolo Kante will be leaving the club after his contract ends this season. Jorginho is also now at Arsenal, making a void to fill.
Ugarte showed promising signs while playing for Sporting, and looks like Chelsea are convinced enough to sign him. his contract with Sporting CP is till 2026, and this might be a reason for paying a hefty transfer fee. This might be just the start for Chelsea’s transfer window as there are multiple players to come and leave this summer.
