Mancini’s job with Italy has been a roller coaster ride. He guided Italy to win the Euro Championship 2020 following a penalty shootout win over England. However, the Euro Champions failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. It was the second consecutive time when the Gli Azzurri failed to feature in FIFA’s mega event. They didn’t even play in the World Cup 2018 in Russia.
Mancini’s side didn’t make a good start in the Euro qualifiers and questions were raised on their performance. The Blues recently participated in Nations League knockouts. Italy were knockout in the semifinal of the UEFA competition by Spain. It was a great opportunity for Mancini’s team to add one more silverware.

Mancini spoke to the media when he last took a job as the manager of Italy. The 56-year-old said about the current Italy side, “At this moment, we have a number of great midfielders and defenders, but we are lacking great forwards. I hope that in the future, players from the youth teams can step up. It’s a pleasure for me to let these young lads play in such high-profile matches. It’s normal when you lose to get criticised, but we should also look at the glass as half-full. Having them compete in such high-level games surely helped them grow.“
As per the reports of Sport Mediaset, the best candidate to replace Mancini in future is Allegri who is currently completing the job with Juventus. The 2024 Euro Championship was the last event which was set for Mancini. Allegri was in Italy’s plan to take the job in case of Italy’s failure at Euro 2024. However, the 56-year-old himself stepped down from the job.
