Trafford Council dropped the hammer on Manchester United’s food hygiene, downgrading their rating to a dismal 1 star after an inspection sparked by raw chicken complaints. Guests at a recent event allegedly fell ill after the dubious meal, prompting investigations by both the council and the club.
Manchester United’s food rating drops to 1/5:
Trafford Council recently conducted a food hygiene inspection, delivering a verdict that underscores the need for “Major improvement” in Manchester United’s standards. The inspection was prompted by allegations surrounding an event held at the club’s stadium, where corporate guests were reportedly served raw chicken.
The severity of the situation led to both Trafford Council and Manchester United initiating investigations to ascertain whether the symptoms experienced by guests were linked to the consumed food or stemmed from other causes.
Manchester United initially held a pristine five-star food hygiene rating on the government’s website. However, the recent revelations cast a shadow over the club’s adherence to food safety standards. The internal investigation launched by the club aims to address the complaints raised regarding the alleged serving of raw chicken to guests.
The annual Food Standards Agency (FSA) inspection, scheduled for October 23 at Old Trafford, uncovered deficiencies in the management of food safety. Essential components, such as the absence of a systematic approach and checks for safe food service and a lack of evidence regarding staff knowledge of food safety, were identified. In light of these findings, the club’s food hygiene rating has been downgraded to a concerning 1 out of 5.
