Man United’s statement on Mason Greenwood coming soon
After making an abrupt U-turn about the future of the striker, United is anticipated to release a statement “as early as tomorrow”. Following months of negotiations and inquiries, the Premier League’s juggernauts are apparently going to provide an update on Greenwood’s future.
The Bradford-born player was arrested in January 2022, which led to an automatic suspension. However, six months ago, he was declared free. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped the case in February of this year. Greenwood was accused of an attempted rape, an assault, and engaging in controlling and coercive behavior.
Now, The Athletic’s David Ornstein said in an interview with NBC Sports, “We’re expecting to hear some sort of update from Manchester United as early as tomorrow.”
However, he also added that “no final decision has been made” over the striker’s future and that “all scenarios still remain open”. Football expert Ornstein said, ‘The official line from Manchester United is that there is no final decision yet and that all scenarios remain open to them.’
He continued, ‘And they are planning for them, such as re-integrating Mason Greenwood. Keep him and loan him out. Sell him or work with their lawyers to actually dismiss him.’ Generally speaking, Manchester United has been coy about the striker’s potential return.
United’s last statement on Mason Greenwood
United claimed that no decision had been taken in a statement they released last Wednesday. This week, the club has released two statements regarding Greenwood. Earlier this week, club representatives said they were “in the final stages” of declaring their plans for the baller.
However, in a shocking U-turn, the player was reportedly dropped from the squad after United found themselves in the middle of a fan outcry against the idea of his comeback. On Tuesday, the Red Devils were prepared to make the announcement that he was joining the team again.

According to reports, chief executive Richard Arnold planned to record a video statement describing the strategy for his reintegration and justifying the club’s choice. However, a backlash on social media following the revelation of that information has shocked the club.
Arnold and the United managers reportedly feel there is no turning back. They cannot introduce the former No. 11 striker again. When his name didn’t appear on the team’s preliminary roster for the upcoming season, concerns about his future at the club began to grow.
He hadn’t played a single game for the team since. But he was recently seen practising at a public park before knowing his fate. The athlete was still prohibited from using United’s Carrington Training Ground while the team’s own inquiry was being conducted.
What next for Greenwood?
All internal inquiries have now been finished. Now, chief executive Arnold has been given the go-ahead to make the ultimate decision. If they decide to not hand him a second chance, it is unclear what will happen to Greenwood, who is still being paid his £75,000 a week contract.
There could be legal implications as well if Man United decide to terminate his contract. He still has 2 years remaining and all charges against him were dropped. United may look to send him on loan but so far, no club has been interested in signing him up.
Talking about him and his partner, Greenwood has had a baby with Harriet Robson. By the looks of it, they have decided to get back together. He posted an image of his and the baby’s hands on IG. The post was also captioned ‘11.07.2023’.
