The writing was on the wall for Erik ten Hag. After Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to West Ham United over the weekend, the Premier League giants decided to sack the Dutch manager. And now reports have emerged that Ruben Amorim is the leading candidate to become the new gaffer for the Manchester Reds.

The 39-year-old manager of Sporting is said to be excited to join the Premier League giants. Currently, Ruud van Nistelrooy is slated to serve as the interim manager till the club finds a new permanent manager. As per reports, the Red Devils are prepared to £8.3m release clause for the Portuguese manager.

Manchester United continues hunt for new manager

Ruben Amorim is excited and open to having discussions with the club. Previously, he declined the chance to join Liverpool after Jugen Kloop left. Amorim has also been on Manchester City’s radar to replace Pep Guardiola once the Spaniard leaves the Manchester Blues.

Amorim has been in the limelight for quite some time. He joined Sporting back in 2020 and on his first season won the club their title after a span of 19 years. In the meantime, the manager has already won two tiles with the club and is known to be tactically adept and has a keen knack for playing and nurturing youngsters, something which bodes well with United’s gameplan and philosophy.

Erik ten Hag joined Manchester United in 2022 and departed the club after winning 2 trophies. He gave the side the League Cup in his first season and won the FA Cup last season, beating arch-rivals Manchester City in the finals. But the club’s poor form this season, saw the Dutch manager lose his job. Manchester United currently sits 14th in the Premier League with 3 wins, 2 draws and 4 losses.
