Manchester United face injury crises ahead of UCL tie against Bayern Munich

Manchester United deep in injury crises as the start to their season has been derailed.

Manchester United is not done receiving bad news. Erik ten Hag’s team lost to Brighton at home on Saturday, making it three losses in a row. The Red Devils’ next assignment is the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich. Since the beginning of the season, there has been an injury issue at Old Trafford. Now, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the most recent player to be out after suffering an injury when playing as a substitute against Brighton last weekend.

Manchester United in injury trouble

The Red Devils are facing an uphill battle. They are on the verge of playing against Bayern Munich and are riddled with injuries. The latest setback for them is the injury to Aarno Wan-Bissaka.

When asked about injuries during Manchester United news conferences, Erik ten Hag highlights the value of having a team and believes that setbacks are a part of football. Yet he must be cursing his luck behind closed doors.

Wan-Bissaka will be sidelined for “several weeks,” it was revealed on Monday afternoon. The precise length of his absence will depend on the results of a subsequent evaluation.

Let’s go through all the injuries that are plaguing the Red Devils right now.

Aaron-Wan Bissaka

After suffering a hamstring injury in the team’s loss to the Seagulls, defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to be out for “several weeks.” After being sick earlier in the week, Wan-Bissaka started the game on the sidelines. He was introduced in the 85th minute, but was hurt immediately after.

A club statement read: “Further assessment will be needed to determine how long Wan-Bissaka will be out for, but initial indications suggest it will be several weeks.“ His potential return date is slotted for December 2023.

Sofyan Amrabat

The absence of Sofyan Amrabat from the Moroccan team for their matches against Liberia and Burkina Faso raised concerns that the midfielder, who was on loan from Fiorentina, was injured.

Walid Regragui, the manager of the Atlas Lions, stated that it was simply a precaution. But Amrabat was unable to play against Brighton. Ten Hag expressed last week’s optimism that the midfielder will be included in the team to face Bayern Munich.

Ten Hag said, ‘Amrabat, he came back unfortunately with the injury, so he will not be available for [to face Brighton], but I think, on the short notice [soon], yes.’ The Morrocan could feature against Bayern.

Mason Mount

Mason Mount has struggled to find his stride since joining United, and a hamstring injury has kept him out of the past two matches. However, the England international is probably going to play following the international break.

He could feature against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Raphael Varane

Varane left the game with an injury in the victory over Forest. He was ruled out of the defeat to Arsenal due to an undisclosed fitness issue. According to the club, the Frenchman will be out for “a few weeks” of activity. He could be back in action in October 2023.

Luke Shaw

Shaw, a pillar of ten Hag’s side, will be out for a few weeks due to a muscle ailment. His injury was one of the reasons why Manchester United signed Sergio Reguilon on loan. He too should be back by October 2023.

Jadon Sancho

The midfielder is not hurt, but he is not with the team because of disciplinary action. Prior to the international break, the 23-year-old claimed he had been used as a “scapegoat” after being left off the team to play Arsenal.

When Sancho was missing, Ten Hag said that it was because of his subpar training efforts. When questioned last week about Sancho playing for the team once more, Ten Hag replied, “I don’t know.”

Antony

In order to respond to the accusations of aggression against women, Antony will take a “period of absence” from Manchester United. He won’t play or practice until further notice. The decision, which was reached in consultation with the player’s club, is not a suspension but a leave of absence with pay.

After allegations of physical assault against his former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin, which the police are looking into. Antony vehemently rejects that anything of that sort happened. Antony was last week dropped from the Brazil squad.

Since then, the Brazilian daily Extra has revealed that influencer and law student Rayssa de Freitas denounced Antony to the police in May 2022. She claimed that the player and another woman were involved in an incident that left her injured. The incident allegedly occurred after a night out in Sao Paulo. It is still unknown when Antony will be reintegrated back into the squad.

When asked if any players could return this week ahead of two matches, Ten Hag didn’t seem too confident. The Manchester United coach said, ‘Maybe, maybe one player. But I think Munich is a little bit too short. I go to Burnley and the week after, players will return.’

He continued, ‘Bayern Munich is one of the favourites to win the Champions League, so we have to be good there and I already explained we need character, belief, resilience, determination, absolutely.’

Manchester United have started this season off on a bad note. Erik Ten Hag will be hoping for a big performance vs Bayern Munich, so that them morale is lifted at the Old Trafford.
