Manchester City postpone contract talks with Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne contract talks to be postponed by Manchester City as Belgian midfielder is injured right now

Contract negotiations between Manchester City and Kevin De Bruyne have reportedly been postponed. That is true even if the Belgian star is nearing the end of his deal with Etihad. The playmaker, 32, is an important part of Pep Guardiola’s team and helped them win the Treble last season. But, if reports are to be believed, then Man City are taking their time extending Kevin De Bruyne’s contract.

Kevin De Bruyne contract talks to be postponed

Manchester City have been reliant on Kevin De Bruyne for a while now. He has been their talisman in midfield ever since Pep Guardiola took over. However, he was forced to leave the curtain-raising Premier League debut against Burnley on August 11 after only 22 minutes due to a hamstring strain.

The Daily Star further reports that the champions suspended talks with the player’s father about extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium.

They want to wait until De Bruyne returns to action after a protracted layoff, which explains why they are doing so. After the injury, he underwent surgery, although it seems unlikely that he will return to play, before the New Year.

The star player’s current deal, which pays him £375,000 per week and runs out in June 2025. Kevin De Bruyne will have just 12 months left when the current season comes to a close. Following the departure of Ilkay Gundogan this summer, manager Pep Guardiola gave the important star the captain’s armband, and he is eager to hold onto him.

It is believed that the Spaniard has given his approval for City to extend Kevin De Bruyne’s two-year deal. The ex-Chelsea player would be confined to the Etihad until his 36th birthday if he agreed to the restrictions. But if a new agreement couldn’t be reached, there would undoubtedly be a lot of interest — or else City would risk losing him for nothing at the conclusion of the next campaign.

In 2015, Kevin De Bruyne transferred to the team from Wolfsburg for a then-club record £55 million. He has racked up 96 goals, 153 assists goals and 13 major trophies – including five Premier Leagues and the Champions League – from his 358 appearances.

Kyle Walker extends Man City contract

Kyle Walker, Manchester City’s right-back, announced his two-year contract extension in a funny video, published by the club. In the video, he imitated Leonardo DiCaprio in a memorable sequence from the movie Wolf of Wall Street.

The 33-year-old England full-back is in the final year of his current contract with the Cityzens. Hence, there has been a lot of conjecture over his future. Now, the deal has been sealed as Kyle Walker has signed an extension until 2026.

Earlier in the summer, Pep Guardiola had dinner with Walker and pleaded with him to stay at the club. This was despite the fact that Walker had been strongly linked with a move to Bayern Munich this summer. It appears the Spanish manager’s efforts to keep his star defender have been successful.
