Manchester United have recalled winger Antony to training amidst the ongoing investigation for alleged physical abuse. Antony was interviewed by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) detectives on Thursday. The Brazilian player, who joined Manchester United from Ajax for a reported fee of £82million in the summer of 2022, was quizzed for five hours by the GMP.

United initially suspended Antony with full pay pending the outcome of the accusations. The accusations were leveled against him by his former partner Gabriella Cavallini. United’s move came after the Brazilian was dropped from the national squad following the allegations.
However, United on Friday confirmed Antony has been recalled to training and will be unavailable for Saturday’s (September 30) Premier League clash at Old Trafford against Crystal Palace.
A statement released by United on Friday said, “Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has cooperated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so.
“As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed.
“This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.
“As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse.
“We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation. We acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
Antony has denied the accusations made against him from the start. He has not been apprehended in the United Kingdom or Brazil in relation to the allegations. The footballer has continued to co-operate fully with investigations in both jurisdictions. Antony has reportedly provided corroborating evidence to support his vehement denial of the accusations against him. According to various reports, he also offered to surrender his cell phone to the law enforcement authorities.
