Despite Sheffield United’s best efforts, they were unable to find a way past City’s defence. The Blades had a chance to equalize in the opening minutes of the game, but Iliman Ndiaye’s shot was straight at City’s goalkeeper Stefan Ortega. Later on, they were aggrieved when 19-year-old Daniel Jebbison was deemed to have fouled Bernardo Silva in the box, leading to Mahrez’s opening goal.
With the win, Manchester City secured their spot in the FA Cup final, where they will face either Manchester United or Brighton on June 3. City’s journey to the final has not been an easy one, having lost in the semi-finals of the competition for the past three seasons.
The victory over Sheffield United also puts City in a strong position to win a historic treble this season. Pep Guardiola’s side is just 5 points behind leaders Arsenal with two matches in hand in the Premier League title race. They will then face Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
