PL exodus to Saudi continues, Laporte set to join Ronaldo at Al-Nassr

Aymeric Laporte is closing in on moving to Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League after falling down the pecking order at Manchester City

According to reports, Manchester City has accepted an undisclosed bid from Saudi club Al Nassr for their center-back, Aymeric Laporte. The defender has not been at the top of the pecking order at City for quite a while. Notably, the news comes after reports claimed that City’s rival Arsenal were preparing a bid for the Spanish defender.

The 29-year-old defender had a difficult time getting playing time at City last season, appearing in just 12 Premier League games.

On Friday, he came on as a late substitute in the opening-day victory at Burnley. His City deal has two years left on it but it seems unlikely that he will finish his deal at the Etihad Stadium. Laporte’s competition at City has also grown after Josko Gvardiol, a fellow left-footed center-back, joined for €90 million (£77.6 million, $98.6 million) from RB Leipzig.

Laporte was an integral part of Man City’s success since his arrival from the Basque Country back in January 2018.

He has won 12 trophies in the North West including five Premier League titles.

While the Saudi Pro League has spent heavily this summer, Al Nassr has so far signed Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, Seko Fofana, and Alex Telles. They also signed Cristiano Ronaldo in the January transfer window in 2023. Laporte will be in the esteemed company if he decides to make the move to the Middle East.
