Luka Majcen to miss 6-8 weeks after fractured jaw, Punjab FC slam Kerala Blasters for ‘aggressive foul’

Despite the setback, Punjab FC is ready to move forward as they prepare for their next match against Odisha FC on Friday, 20th September, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

Punjab FC’s star forward, Luka Majcen, will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks after suffering a fractured jaw during the team’s Indian Super League (ISL) season opener against Kerala Blasters on Sunday in Kochi. The Slovenian footballer sustained two fractures to his jaw after a rough challenge during the match, which has now resulted in him requiring surgery. Majcen’s return to action will depend on the outcome of the surgery and subsequent medical clearances, but the estimated recovery period is between six and eight weeks.

Despite the unfortunate setback, Majcen’s early contributions in the season have been significant, showing his resilience and commitment.

Punjab FC strong response to Incident

Following the incident, Punjab FC’s Football Director, Nikolaos Topoliatis, expressed the club’s disappointment over the nature of the tackle that led to Majcen’s injury. “It is unfortunate that we will miss Luka for the upcoming fixtures. The injury was the result of an unwanted aggressive foul by the Kerala Blasters player, and as a club, we do not support such an aggressive nature of the game, which yields nothing positive,” Topoliatis stated. He also wished Majcen a speedy recovery, hoping for his swift return to the team.

This incident has sparked debate around sportsmanship and the physicality of the game, with Punjab FC standing firm in their belief in playing fair and maintaining a strong team ethic.

Luka Majcen contributions in ISL season opener

Before his injury, Luka Majcen was pivotal in helping Punjab FC secure their opening win against Kerala Blasters. He coolly converted a penalty to score the team’s first goal and later provided an assist for Filip Mrzljak, who netted the winning goal.

Majcen’s presence on the field will be sorely missed, but his early-season performance has already set the tone for Punjab FC’s campaign. His ability to come back stronger will surely inspire his teammates.

Upcoming fixture against Odisha FC

Despite the setback, Punjab FC is ready to move forward as they prepare for their next match against Odisha FC on Friday, 20th September, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The team will undoubtedly rally together in the absence of Majcen, with the hope that his recovery process goes smoothly, allowing him to rejoin the squad soon.

This kind of challenge only fuels the team to come back stronger! Here’s hoping Luka Majcen’s recovery is speedy, and that Punjab FC continues to build momentum in his absence.
