The goal was allowed to stand which incensed the visitors and then quickly surrounded the official. The referee gave the Avenida captain a second yellow but eventually lost his card as he tried to elude the encroaching players. It forced the military police onto the pitch as a host of men with shields quickly ran out to protect the referee and halt the Avenida players.
Gremio would add another goal as they played against 9 men. Another player was sent off for protesting to the referee. With the win, Suarez’s team now has a perfect record from seven games and is comfortably in first place.
