This victory sends Liverpool into second in the Premier League, but 11 points behind Manchester City, meanwhile Brentford remain 14th. Next up for Liverpool is a trip to the Emirates for their EFL Cup semi-final against Arsenal, before travelling to Crystal Palace next weekend. Brentford host Manchester United on Wednesday.

Liverpool picked up their first win in four Premier League games as they moved back up to second place in the table, closing the gap on leaders Manchester City to 11 points. Virgil van Dijk came close midway through tie first half when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner fell into his path at the back post but the Dutchman’s effort was denied by the leg of Brentford goalkeeper Álvaro Fernández on the line.
Ivan Toney then flashed a shot just wide of Alisson Becker’s goal before the hosts finally found their breakthrough. Another Alexander-Arnold found it’s target, and this time it was Fabinho who got on to the end of it at the back post to head home.

Liverpool put the game beyond doubt 10 minutes later. Andrew Robertson’s perfect cross was nodded in by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to double their advantage. Takumi Minamino then came off the bench to score his second league goal of the season, tapping in from six yards out after Roberto Firmino had pick-pocketed the Brentford defence.
