This is the fourth German club they are facing this summer. They have had diverse results throughout these matches. On the other hand, Darmstadt have remained winless in all of their four pre-season friendlies. It doesn’t seem to be getting any easier for the Bundesliga team as they now face the Premier League giants Liverpool in their last pre-season friendly as well.

Liverpool ended last season in 5th position in the Premier League table and qualified for the upcoming season’s UEFA Europa League. This will be their first time without Champions League games under current coach Jurgen Klopp. The coach is determined to do better this time around, so they are rebuilding the team. However, they lost some of their key players including their captain this transfer window. They played the pre-season friendlies in the middle of the changes. As the new season is set to begin, new players will come to replace the departed ones.
So far, the Reds have played 4 pre-season friendlies. They had 3 German opponents in those 4 matches. They won 2-4 against Karlsruher and drew 4-4 against Greuther Furth in the first two friendlies of their pre-season campaign. Their third friendly was against Leicester City which they won by a 4-0 margin. They lost 3-4 against Bayern Munich in their penultimate friendly. Following their last friendly of this summer against Darmstadt, the Reds will begin their Premier League campaign against Chelsea on August 13.
SV Darmstadt were out of Germany’s top-tier competition for 6 years. Last term, they ended their season in 2nd position in the 2. Bundesliga table. They failed to win the tournament only due to goal differences. In the last matchweek, they could have won the tournament with only one win. However, they lost the match 4-0 to Greuther Furth. After being at the top of the table since matchweek 12, they lost the tournament to Heidenheim. However, finishing in 2nd place means they have qualified for the upcoming season’s Bundesliga.
Similar to Liverpool, so far, Darmstadt have also played 4 pre-season friendlies. However, to their dismay, they have remained winless. They lost both of their first two friendlies against Norwich City and Gieben respectively by 0-1 and 2-0 margins. They consecutively drew both of their next two friendlies against Karlsruher and Sandhausen by 0-0 margins. Following their last friendly against the Reds, they will face 08 Homburg in DFB-Pokal. Then their Bundesliga campaign starts on August 20 against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Liverpool Team News
- The Reds have lost a huge part of their midfield this transfer window. Fabinho, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, James Milner, Fabio Carvalho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and captain Jordan Henderson all left the club this summer. Hence, are playing without some of their key midfielders. However, new arrivals, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have fit in well in the shortest time.
- Mac Allister was taken off at half-time during their clash against Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. Many feared severe injury in the clash of knees that caused him to retreat to the dressing room. However, coach Klopp affirmed that the Argentine is only nursing a bruise. Hence, he should be lining up against Darmstadt. However, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic will remain sidelined as they are yet to recover from their groin surgeries.
- In the absence of former captain Henderson, the armband has permanently gone to Trent Alexander-Arnold and he will continue to lead on Monday. The coach will be looking ahead to the blockbuster Premier League match, so he could line up his regular starters for the last friendly. Hence, Ibrahim Konate, Darwin Nunez, and Luis Diaz could be called up.
Darmstadt Team News
- Darmstadt have an unwanted long list of injured players with the season set to close soon. Their defensive trio – Frank Ronstadt, Jannik Muller, and Emir Karic are all out of commission with injuries. Additionally, their attacking duo – Oscar Vilhemsson and Aaron Seydel are also nursing muscular issues of their own.
- If the attacking duo remains sidelined with their injury, the coach could call up new arrival Fraser Hornby to lead in the final third. The former Reims forward was a Northampton Town and Everton academy player. Hence, travelling to Deepdale for the match, he will be back in familiar territory on Monday. The coach could line him up at the tip of a possible 3-4-2-1 formation.
