The Indian Football Team squad in the Asian Games 2023 has undergone significant changes. Mohun Bagan Super Giant forward Liston Colaco and Jamshedpur FC goalkeeper Vishal Yadav have been included in the squad. They will likely replace Rohit Danu and Dheeraj Singh. Sunil Chhetri is set to lead a second-strund squad at Asian Games 2023. However, the club has not officially confirmed the release of Liston Colaco.
The All India Football Federation, on Wednesday, named a 18-member men’s squad for the Asian Games. The tournament is set to begin on September 19. Two senior players are missing from the amended squad are Sandesh Jhingan and Gurpeet Singh Sandhu. Akash Mishra, Siva Sakthi Narayanan, Anwar Ali, Vikram Partap Singh, Naorem Mahesh Singh, Suresh Singh Wangjam, Jeakson Singh Thounaojam, Lalchungnunga, Roshan Singh, Apuia Ralte, and Ashish Rai are the other players missing from the initial team.
The completely revamped squad is set to be led by Sunil Chhetri. However, the Captian is set to make a last ditch attempt to convince the ISL clubs after they have refused to send in players.
The captain is aiming to make an impression at the 2023 Asian Games. However, he recognises that it will be impossible with the existing team. When it comes to requesting clubs, the coach and captain are on the same page.
They both agree that it is India’s only way to compete. They contend that doing so will not imperil the clubs’ chances in the ISL or AFC Cup. This is a last-ditch effort to find a solution that will satisfy everyone.
