PSG does have the option to offer a 12-month extension on Messi’s current contract. The deal signed in 2021 was 2 years + 1 additional year. But, it does look like the Argentinian will be opting to end his time in Paris at the end of the 2022/23 season. PSG’s game against Lyon over the weekend was the second game wherein PSG fans booed Messi.

In the first game that he was booed, Leo was not a happy man at all. After the game, wherein PSG lost, the players went around to thank the fans for their support. As soon as the final whistle blew, Messi went straight down the tunnel without acknowledging the fans at all.

His reaction to the whistles suffered against Lyon has gone viral as well. He didn’t seem too bothered when he was whistled while warming up against Lyon though. In the clip, the veteran forward took it in his stride by simply laughing.

Return to FC Barcelona?

A return to FC Barcelona cannot be ruled out for Leo Messi. The Argentine spent his whole life at the club, before having to make the move to PSG in 2021. Barcelona’s vice-president Rafael Yuste has said Barca has been in contact with Lionel Messi and his agent and has confirmed Barca’s interest in bringing back Leo.

Yuste said, ‘Leo and his family know the affection I have for them. I participated in the negotiations which unfortunately did not lead to a certain result. I’ve always had and I have this thorn in my side that Leo couldn’t continue at our club. Messi knows how much we appreciate him. I would love for him to come back. We’re in contact, of course, with them.’
