That close victory sends Barca through to the next round. With only 16 teams left after this round of fixtures, Xavi’s side will be hoping that they can win the tournament again for a second successive year, although they won’t forget the stern test that Linares put them through in this game.

Gerard Piqué came on as a substitute for the Blaugrana at half-time, as did Ousmane Dembélé despite the uncertainty surrounding his future at the club. And it was Dembélé who equalised with a curling effort from distance which slipped through the goalkeeper’s grasp just after the hour mark.

Linares then thought they’d gone back in front when Neto made a mess of a weak header at him, but luckily for him and Barça, the flag went up for offside. Moments later, the visitors went 2-1 up at the other end when Ferran Jutglà finished brilliantly into the far corner after a superb run in off the left flank for what proved to be the winning goal.
