Lallianzuala Chhangte, Manisha Kalyan adjudged AIFF Player of The Year

AIFF announced Player of the Year awards. Lallianzuala Chhangte won men's senior player of the year. Manisha Kalyan received women's player of the year honor.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) revealed the recipients of AIFF Player of The Year awards. Lallianzuala Chhangte, a key player for the Indian team during the SAFF Championship, was named the men’s senior player of the year. Meanwhile, Manisha Kalyan received the Women’s player of the Year honor.

In the men’s category, Akash Mishra, 21, and in the women’s category, Shilji Shaji, 16, have been recognized as the Emerging Players of the Year. Clifford Miranda, who led Odisha FC to victory in the Super Cup, has been awarded the Coach of the Year title for men’s football. Priya PV, the head coach of the India U-17 women’s team has been honored as the women’s coach of the year.

Mumbai City FC winger Lallianzuala Chhangte has been awarded the 2022-23 AIFF Men’s Footballer of the Year. He is the second player from Mizoram, after Jeje Lalpekhlua in 2016, to receive this prestigious accolade. Chhangte stood out among Nandhakumar Sekar and Naorem Mahesh Singh.

In the international season, he played 12 matches for India, scoring two goals and providing one assist. Chhangte was a key player for Mumbai City FC during their League Winners’ Shield campaign. He featured in all 22 matches of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) last season, with 10 goals and six assists. He also impressed in the Durand Cup with seven goals and three assists in seven appearances. Chhangte also added one goal in the Hero Super Cup.

Manisha Kalyan, has been honored with the AIFF Women’s Footballer of the Year. She surpassed Dalima Chhibber and Ngangbam Sweety Devi. This is her second consecutive win, having previously received the 2020-21 AIFF Women’s Emerging Footballer of the Year award.

Shilji Shaji, has been named the AIFF Women’s Emerging Player of the Year for the 2022-23 season. Shaji was the top scorer in the 2023 SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship, scoring eight goals in four games.
