Ansu Fati Contract: The young record-breaker

Born in Bissau (Guinea Bissau) on October 31, 2002, and aged only 18 years old, Ansu Fati is currently one of football’s hottest properties.

He joined La Masía in 2012 and progressed through FC Barcelona’s youth teams before making his first-team debut in 2019 at the precocious age of 16 years old. He has been breaking record after record since, and now wearing the ’10’ shirt, he is one of the squad’s players with the brightest future.

Ansu Fati became the second-youngest Barça player to ever debut for the first-team in La Liga on August 25, 2019, aged just 16 years and 298 days old, with only Vicente Martínez making an earlier debut in the history of the Club aged 16 years, 9 months, and 7 days old.

Ansu then achieved another milestone a week after his debut when he became Barça’s youngest ever player to score in La Liga against Osasuna.

His record-breaking continued when he became Barça’s youngest ever player to start a match in Camp Nou against Valencia. He also became the youngest player to score and assist in the same game in the history of La Liga – needing only seven minutes to do so – but that wasn’t all, as he also became the youngest ever scorer in the Camp Nou for either Barça or an away team that night.

Fati also became Barça’s youngest ever player in the Champions League in a match against Borussia Dortmund at just 16 years and 321 days old. He scored his first Champions League goal against Inter Milan in the San Siro (1-2), aged 17 years and 40 days old, breaking a tournament record that had stood since 1997.

15 goals in 47 games

Despite suffering a serious injury in November 2020, resulting in 10 months out, Ansu Fati has played 47 first-team games for FC Barcelona, scoring 15 goals and providing three assists. 13 of the goals were scored in La Liga (two this season), with the other two in the Champions League.
