Both coaches and directors at Los Blancos have viewed Haaland as a very interesting player. The Spanish club and its decision makers have kept a keen eye on the Man City striker through his moves to different clubs.
In spite of not making an offer, Los Blancos have always kept in touch with Haaland’s agents. But the Real Madrid has never intensified their attempt to pursue the Norwegian due to their obsession with Kylian Mbappe.
Real Madrid has attempted to lure Kylian Mbappe to Santiago Bernabeu multiple times. Due to various reasons, those attempts have proved futile till now. That does not mean Real Madrid are out of the race to sign Mbappe. Various reports claim the Los Blancos could move for the Frenchman again in the 2024 summer transfer window.
It would not be feasible for Real Madrid to buy arguably two of the most valuable players of world football right now. Although Real Madrid’s payroll will be lightened by the departure of players such as Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Isco, the reduction in salary is not enough to then warrant paying huge salaries to both Haaland and Mbappe.
Even if Real Madrid somehow find a way to accommodate both players, it remains a doubt if Erling Haaland would want to move to the same club as the Frenchman.
The Norwegian moved to Manchester City and won the treble and Premier League golden boot in his debut season. Reports claim Haaland could move to Barcelona after the few years. If rivals Real Madrid indeed manage to sign Mbappe, the El Clasico baton will finally be passed from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
