Kolkata likely to host ISL 2023-24 Final on May 4

Mohun Bagan Super Giant defeated Mumbai City FC 2-1 to clinch their first ever ISL Shield

In a thrilling end to the ISL 2023-24 League Stage, Mohun Bagan Super Giant clinched their first-ever ISL Shield, with Mumbai City FC securing the runner-up position. Following the League Shield, attention now turns to the venue for the ISL 2023-24 finals, with Kolkata and Mumbai competing for the hosting rights,

Both teams secured spots in the semi-finals, while teams ranked third to sixth will vie for the remaining two semi-final berths in single-leg knockout matches. The semi-finals will follow a home-and-away format, with the winners over two legs advancing to the Grand Final slated for May 4th.

VYBK to host ISL 2023-24 Final?

Although the ISL 2023-24 Final is likely to take place at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, the final venue is yet to be confirmed.

While the ISL was inaugurated at the Yuva Bharati in 2014, the final has never been held in Kolkata. Organizers are considering Kolkata to mark the 10th year of the ISL, but Mumbai is also in contention to host the final. However, a decision on the final venue is expected within a week.

Reports from Anandabazaar suggest that if both Kolkata Giants had reached the final, it would undoubtedly have been held in Kolkata. However, concerns arise about filling Yuva Bharati’s 63,000-seat capacity if Mohun Bagan alone reach the final. Mumbai is being considered as an alternative, but with over 60,000 spectators at the recent Mohun Bagan vs Mumbai City match, doubts about Yuva Bharati’s capacity have been dispelled. If all goes well, Yuva Bharati will host its first-ever ISL final.
