The much anticipated Kolkata Derby between Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal is likely to be postponed. The ISL fixture is slated to take place on 11th January but that is not likely going to be the case. Mohun Bagan who are the hosts of this game, are yet to get permission to conduct the match at the Salt Lake Stadium from the Bidhanagar Police. The reason? There won’t be adequate police due to the Gangasagar Mela.
Mohun Bagan is the host of the game but they haven’t got permission to host the game. A senior Mohun Bagan official informed InsideSport that the club had got permission to host the Hyderabad game on 2nd January. But they haven’t yet got permission to host the Kolkata Derby on 11th January.
Fate of Kolkata Derby hangs on Balance
“We haven’t received any letter from the Bidhannagar Police. We are awaiting updates for the same. We currently don’t know what will happen (regarding the Derby),” the Senior official told InsideSport.
What happens to the game remains to be seen. As things stand, the crunch in fixtures can make things difficult for the Mariners. If the game doesn’t happen then Mohun Bagan can go on to host the game later on in February.
Mohun Bagan currently tops the charts in the Indian Super League (ISL). The Green and Maroon brigade has gone on to register 29 games from 13 games.
