With Inter Miami’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs over, speculation grew ripe about Lionel Messi’s homecoming to Barcelona on loan for the rest of the season. However, those speculations now seem wide off the mark as Messi prepares to play for Argentina in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers. If Messi indeed doesn’t go on loan in January, How does Messi’s schedule look till the start of MLS next season? Let’s take a look.
October
Lionel Messi is now with Argentina, preparing for Argentina’s CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier matches. Argentina will play Paraguay on 13th October, and Peru on 18th October in matchday 3 and 4 of the WX qualifiers. The matches are crucial for the defending champions to qualify for the World Cup’s next edition which will be held in USA, Canada and Mexico. However, there remains some injury concerns regarding Messi ahead of the encounters.
After the international break is over, Lionel Messi will return to the Inter Miami setup to play the final two matches of the season for the David Beckham co-owned club. However, the match against Charlotte FC on 19th October might come too early for the Argentine to feature. Messi will be playing a match for the national team the day before.
However, Lionel Messi could make an appearance in Inter Miami’s last match of the season against the same opposition on 22nd October. It is important to remember that Inter Miami will have no chance of qualifying for the playoffs even if they win both matches.
November
Lionel Messi will feature for matchday 5 and 6 in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers in November after the conclusion of Inter Miami’s MLS season. Argentina will square off against Uruguay and south-American rivals Brazil on November 17th and November 22nd respectively.
Inter Miami are also scheduled to play some friendlies in Asia in November but the details of the tour are yet to be announced.
December
Lionel Messi will then have a vacation of four weeks in December. It will be a time for the talisman to rejuvenate ahead of a crucial MLS season for Inter Miami.
January
Inter Miami will begin its preseason for the MLS 2024-25. Messi will be looking to put in the hours on those training sessions to be in best shape before new MLS season.
