Kevin De Bruyne could miss weeks of action after getting injured in PL opener

Kevin De Bruyne picks up injury against Burnley in EPL opener and early suggestions say that he will miss a couple of weeks of action

Kevin De Bruyne: This is not the start to the season that Manchester City were envisioning. Even though they won their Premier League opener against Burnley, they were dealt a huge blow. Their talisman in midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne was injured and needed to be subbed off in the first half of the game. The Belgian midfielder is a vital cog in Man City’s midfield and it seems as though the injury is semi-serious. That means Kevin De Bruyne might miss a couple of weeks of action for the Cityzens.

After hobbling off in Manchester City’s Premier League opener, Kevin de Bruyne is allegedly scheduled to get a scan to ascertain the extent of his most recent injury. At Turf Moor, City defeated Vincent Kompany’s freshly promoted Burnley 3-0 to get the new season underway.

However, there was cause for concern for De Bruyne when he was substituted in the first half. After collapsing in the 23rd minute due to what appeared to be a recurrence of a hamstring injury, the Belgian had to be replaced by Mateo Kovacic.

City boss Pep Guardiola confirmed after the game it is feared De Bruyne has aggravated the same hamstring injury that ended his participation in the Champions League final and will now undergo a scan on Monday, according to the Athletic.

Guardiola on Kevin De Bruyne’s injury

Pep Guardiola addressed the injury that De Bruyne suffered against Burnley. Pep said, ‘It depends on the magnitude of the injury but he will be out for a few weeks. He is down. We have to reflect, talk to the doctors, see what happened. He has to be relaxed, recover and come back.’

His prior hamstring issue was mainly kept under wraps as City’s players left for summer vacations and festivities after winning the Treble in Istanbul. De Bruyne needed a considerable amount of recovery before returning to pre-season training despite not needing surgery following his significant hamstring rupture.

The 32-year-old took part in numerous friendly warm-up games during City’s preseason tour, but he will now miss weeks of the league’s opening matches and might miss a longer amount of time if examinations reveal the injury is worse than initially thought. De Bruyne would be forced to miss Wednesday’s Super Cup final with Sevilla and matches against Newcastle, Sheffield United, and West Ham if Guardiola’s assessment that he will miss weeks of action is accurate.

Man City eyeing West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta

If reports are to be believed, then City are looking to sign Brazilian midfielder, Lucas Paqueta from West Ham. City have apparently made a £70m offer for Lucas Paqueta. But West Ham believes that they deserve more money for their midfielder. According to the Brazilian newspaper Gol globo, Manchester City has launched a £70 million bid for West Ham player Lucas Paqueta.

West Ham is reportedly unwilling to trade the Brazilian international and is set to want more than the £70 million amount reported in Brazil. According to reports, Lucas Paqueta and Manchester City have reached a long-term agreement on a six-year deal. West Ham are reportedly sticking out for £110 million if they want to offload another great player this summer, after selling Declan Rice to Arsenal.
