Ahmed returned to the Blasters in 2019 after finishing his assignment at Jamshedpur FC, where he continued to serve as head coach Eelco Schattorie’s assistant coach. Since then, Kibu Vicuna and Ivan Vukomanovic, two distinct coaches, have both relied on the 40-year-old as a mainstay at Kerala Blasters FC and an essential member of the coaching and backroom staff.
In the 2021–22 Hero ISL season, the Tuskers, coached by Vukomanovic and Ahmed, advanced to their third final but were unsuccessful after falling to Hyderabad FC 3–1 on penalties.Additionally, for the first time in their existence, the team qualified for the playoffs in the 2021–2022 and 2022–2023 ISL seasons.
