In the Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru FC took the lead in the 97th minute when the legendary Indian captain struck a free kick after regulation ended scoreless. The Adrian Luna-led team, however, objected to referee Crystal John’s ruling that it was a legitimate goal and countered with charges that the players were not prepared and that the referee had not blown the whistle prior to Chhetri’s kick. This led to a full-fledged dispute.
Forget the legitimacy of the Chhetri goal, there will be grave consequences for Kerala Blasters for their walk out. And rightly so.
Walking off when a decision goes against your team cannot be normalised.
Kerala Blasters should be penalised heavily.

The angry Blasters manager, Ivan Vukomanovic, came onto the field and started yelling at John. This and the referee’s certainty that he had made the right decision caused Vukomanovic to lead the team directly off the field and onto the pitch. This came after a first-ever walk-out in ISL during which Serbian coach Ivan Vukomanovic called his players back. As his teammates followed their captain, Luna was seen pulling off his armband.

The forfeiture and walk out cost Blasters dearly as they might face heavy sanctions from the league authorities. If a team refuses to continue to play or leaves the field of Play/Stadium before end of the match, the penal action can include deduction of points and/or suspension by the League, “depending on the gravity of the situation.”
Bengaluru FC advanced to the semi-finals of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). In the seventh minute of extra time, Sunil Chhetri scored the game’s lone goal to give his team its ninth straight victory and secure a spot in the semi-finals. Despite having the majority of the ball in the first half, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu of Bengaluru FC kept the Blasters from scoring.
