Jose Mourinho Charged by UEFA for Insulting & Abusing Referee Anthony Taylor

Roma Manager Jose Mourinho has been charged by the UEFA for abusing and insulting Europa Finals Match referee Anthony Taylor

Jose Mourinho: Roma manager Jose Mourinho is now charged by the European Footballing Committee, UEFA for his comments on referee Anthony Taylor and his staff after the Europa League finals. Mourniho’s side lost the game against Sevilla on penalties after the 120-minute ended up being drawn by 1-1. However, Roma would have won much earlier if referee Anthony Taylor wouldn’t ruled out the penalty.

In the regular time, Nemanja Matic’s cross made contact with the midfielder’s arm, when he was in the penalty box. However, the referee didn’t rule that as a penalty meaning his hands were adjudged to have been in a natural position. The penalty could have changed the game for Roma.

Insidesport

There were multiple instances, which Roma fans believed went against them. Gonzalo Montiel’s decisive penalty was retaken and Jose Mourinho also saw himself booked after his multiple altercations with match officials.

Clearly, the Roma manager was not happy with the results and more than that with the refereeing. So, he waited in the parking for Anthony Taylor and used abusive language against the referee. The 60-year-old called the performance “a disgrace”. He didn’t stop there and also took on the referees in the post-game press conference.

Mourinho said, “If we talk about refereeing situations, it’s not two or three: it is many, quite apart from the big decisions. Those of us who have been in football a long time realise immediately what is going on.” He even used the word scandal saying, “[Lorenzo] Pellegrini falls in box and given a yellow card; [Lucas] Ocampos did exactly the same thing and he doesn’t get one. It’s a scandal. VAR called the referee and shames Ocampos but there’s no card given.”

The Portuguese manager even gave up his runner-up medal just after receiving it. It might not be well taken as he gave up the medal in a style, which showed his disagreements with the game result.

UEFA have now charged the Roma manager because of his words and he might be punished for it. Mourinho might face a few-game ban and fine as a punishment.
