Jordan Henderson Transfer: Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson wrote his name to the long list of players who have joined the Saudi Pro League this transfer window. Henderson shared an emotional message on his social media account. Additionally, coach Jurgen Klopp also shared an emotional message on the club’s social media account to say goodbye to the skipper. However, many fans are not supporting Henderson. He is a known supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. However, the greywashing of his rainbow captain’s armband in his welcome video has upset many people.

Jordan Henderson spent 12 years of his career at Liverpool. He spent 8 of those years leading the club as their captain through several ups and downs. He appeared in more than 490 games for Liverpool and won every major trophy with them. However, the decision to move depended a lot on reuniting with his old teammate Steven Gerrard. As he decided to leave the club, he posted an emotional farewell message on his social media account. In the video, he talked about his beautiful journey with Liverpool.

He said, “I’m sad I won’t have the chance to play at the bigger Anfield but I know what impact it will have on the opponents. I guess the thing I want to say most of all to you is just simply, thank you. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your club, thank you for your support in good times and bad. Thank you for all the sacrifices and commitment you made and will continue to make to follow us all over the world.”

He ended the video by leaving the most perfect lines to a Liverpool fan. He added, “Just know, I will always be a Red. Until the day I die.” An emotional goodbye message from coach Jurgen Klopp was also posted on the club’s social media account as a reply. The coach started with, “Hi Skipper. We will miss you, you know that. You will miss us, I know that. But it’s life. It’s not forever, it’s just a goodbye. It’s wishing good luck, you wished it to us and we wish it to you…”

Klopp added to tell him that the only Liverpool captain he has ever known since he joined the club is a legend. He added, “If nobody told you yet I well tell you now: you are a legend. I know people say recently we use that word slight too often, I can tell you that it is not in your case.” The coach also ended his video with another beautiful message saying, “Thank you for everything, see you soon, and don’t forget: you’ll never walk alone.”

While it seems everything is well and emotional between the club and their former captain, that is not the case for a part of Liverpool fans. It was widely known that Henderson is a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. However, it is also known that Saudi Arabia has an extremely negative approach toward the LGBTQ+ community. Since Henderson agreed to a move to the country, it has upset many fans.

The uproar started again after Al Ettifaq posted his welcome video on their social media account. They greyed out his rainbow captain’s armband on several occasions in the video. Fans who also belong to the LGBTQ+ community noticed this and slammed the former Liverpool skipper again for the move. Many fans spoke out about how disappointed they are feeling with the player in this whole ordeal.
