Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman is on the shortlist for a high-profile role in Manchester United’s Sir Jim Ratcliffe shake-up which is expected to cost the club £1.3billion.
Ratcliffe’s bid for a 25 per cent share of the club is set to be confirmed during the international break. The Ineos chairman is determined to put a stop to the hodgepodge transfer policy of Manchester United. United has spent more than £1 billion on new players over the past three years. But it has provided with little improvement in terms of results.
John Murtough and Darren Fletcher are both expected to step down as technical director and football director respectively. Ratcliffe is said to have a short list of candidates to replace them. It includes Paul Mitchell, a former Southampton. Tottenham and Monaco player, as well as ex-Liverpool duo Michael Edwards and Julian Ward.
However, ex-Nottingham Forest boss Dougie Freedman has been in charge of recruitment at Selhurst Park since 2017. According to a new report in The Daily Star, Ratcliffe and Sir David Brailsford have been impressed with his work on the transfer market.
Brailsfordwill have a significant impact on decisions going forward along with Ratcliffe. He is a big admirer of Freedman. Freedman, at the age of 49, has made a name for himself. He has led a number of astute acquisitions at Selhurst Park in recent years.
Fit for Manchester United? Freedman’s shrewd buys
Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise moved to the capital for modest amounts. They have since played a key part in the Eagles’ emergence as a top-tier team under Freedman.

Guehi, who joined Chelsea from the academy two years ago, was valued at £18m but has since gone on to win full international honours in the past year. Eze, who signed for £17m from QPR, has followed a similar pattern and was a target for United before signing a long-term deal earlier this week.
