Jesse Lingard heads off to Saudi Arabia to unite with Liverpool legend

Lingard remains a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest when his one-year contract expired at the end of last season

Jesse Lingard is reportedly set to unite with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. The England international will train with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq. The former Manchester United and West Ham forward posted a picture of himself jetting off to Dubai. He is expected to train with the Saudi Arabian outfit in the UAE capital.

Lingard remains a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest. His one-year contract expired at the end of last season.

According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Lingard has agreed a one month training deal with Al-Ettifaq.

The striker was training with his former club West Ham as he searched for a new club.

According to Mail Sport, the 30-year-old has made a good impression on manager David Moyes. Moyes is keen to sign him on a short-term contract. But Moyes wants to make sure he’s fully committed to the club before doing so.

When asked about Lingard’s future at his pre-match press conference last week, Moyes did not rule out the possibility of a free transfer.

Lingard is now expected to join up with Al-Ettifaq on a month training deal. The Saudi Arabian side is managed by Steven Gerrard.

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and ex-Everton winger Demarai Gray were among the Premier League players to move to Al-Ettifaq this summer.

Lingard on Saudi

In June, Lingard had said that Saudi Arabia was ‘one of the top places to be for a footballer’.

‘I’m considering all options,’ Lingard said ‘I’ve never ruled out any team or club out, so for me it’s just picking the right team and it’s got to be right for me.

“Saudi Arabia are doing big things, and in the next couple of years or so, it will be one of the hotspots to go to.

“I’m not really surprised that the big names are moving out there. Like I say, they’re doing big things and it’s something I would consider as well – I’ve not ruled that out either.

“It’s got to be right for me at the end of the day. I’ve got to go on my gut feeling but I’m still hungry and striving for success,” Lingard said.
