With sponsors Sree Cement on their way out after a tumultuous year of conflicts with the East Bengal officials, this new move will surely be a much-welcomed move for the fans. In a bid to discuss the tie-up among the two clubs, the East Bengal officials traveled to Bangladesh and with the meeting being successful, a press release from the club confirmed the strategic alliance.
“At the invitation of Sayem Sobhan Anvir, Chairman, Sheikh Russell Sports Club, it has been decided in consultation with the officials of East Bengal, a century-old tradition of India, that Sheikh Russell Sports Club and East Bengal Club will work together for the development of Asia football,” said a release from the club.
