ISL Season 8 Golden Glove award: Top five contenders to win the Golden Glove award this season
1. TP Rehenesh
It has been a topsy turvy season for TP Rehenesh. Although he started the season well he has struggled with inconsistencies and fitness. Recently he has lost his place to Pawan Kumar. But Owen Coyle will hope that his No. 1 custodian comes back in the reckoning after attaining full fitness.
Rehenesh is known for superb reflexes but there are many areas he needs to improve starting from his aerial ball prowess. His decision making has also left him wanting more. But Jamshedpur FC will hope Rehenesh makes a comeback as he is their best bet as they enter the business end of this season with great chances of making it to the playoffs for the first time in their history.
2. Amrinder Singh
The big money move to ATK Mohun Bagan has not worked well for Amrinder Singh. However, his potential is not unknown as he led his former team Mumbai City FC to the ISL shield and later to the trophy. So he definitely can rise to that occasion. Head coach Juan Ferrando understands that the 28-year-old is going through a rough patch and has publicly said his players to back him up.
Before coming to Mumbai City FC, Amrinder enjoyed a great stint with Bengaluru FC where he led the Blues to the I-League and Federation Cup titles in 2016. He then made the permanent switch to the ISL joining the Islanders. He had a great last season under Sergio Lobera and made a huge difference between the sticks especially with his ability to play the ball out from the back.
ATK Mohun Bagan needs Amrinder to come back to form in the remainder of this campaign. The league has been very competitive this season and a couple of good games for the 28-year-old will change the entire narrative for Amrinder Singh and the Mariners.

3. Laxmikant Kattimani
The veteran goalkeeper has been in the Indian football circuit for a long time. But Kattimani’s current form has impressed everyone in and around Hyderabad FC. He has given great assurance to the Hyderabad FC backline sharing his experience and has been a leader at the back for the young defenders.
Although Kattimani has kept only a single clean sheet, his presence at the back has brought great assurance to the backline. They need to sort out a few issues in their defence and then things will probably get better in the future matches. The veteran goalkeeper has shown great understanding with his fellow defenders and has made some game changing saves. He will hope to stack up more clean sheets to make a final push for the elusive Golden Glove award.

4. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu
It hasn’t been a great season for Gurpreet Singh Sandhu just like Bengaluru FC he has also made some unforced errors at the back for the Blues. However, he is still in the running for the Golden Glove if he manages to pull off some heroics at the business end of the season. India’s numero uno has not been consistent with his saves and passing. He needs to cut out those errors as Bengaluru FC look to make a late surge with a couple of wins under their belt.
Gurpreet has won the Gold Glove award twice in the past in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. He helped his team win the title in the 2019-20 season for the Blues after Rahul Bheke scored a late winner from a setpiece. There is no question about Gurpreet Singh Sandhu’s quality so if Marco Pezzaiouli manages to iron out the issues in their defence, things will improve for him and his team.
5. Prabhsukhan Singh Gill
A surprise inclusion in this list but Prabhsukhan Singh Gill is the front runner to win the prestigious Golden Glove award. His form has been synonymous with Kerala Blasters’s form this season. Gill has managed to keep four clean sheets till now in eight matches. Ivan Vukomanovic started the season with Albino Gomes, but an injury to the custodian saw the Serbian tactician turn to Gill. The young custodian has also repaid the faith with some sensational performances.
Gill has shown tremendous authority in the backline and the way he communicates with his defenders is exemplary. The Blasters are on a ten-match unbeaten run and Gill has had a huge role to play in the recent results. He will be hoping to continue this sensational form in the coming matches aswell.
