ISL Season 8: It has been a very disappointing season for SC East Bengal as they have only secured a single win in this season’s Indian Super League. The only match that they won was against FC Goa. But out of the few the 2-2 draw against Chennaiyin FC got to be at the top of the list. The Red and Golds were pegged back early on in their last ISL game as Hira Mondal conceded a cheap own goal to hand Chennaiyin FC the lead within the second minute of the game. Soon Ninthoinganba Meetei doubled the lead in the 12th minute.

The Red and Golds tried their best to break open the Marina Machans backline. They only succeeded in the 61st minute when Dutch midfielder Darren Sidoel scored a great goal from a freekick to bring his team back in the game. Later right at the stroke of full-time Lalrinliana Hnamte redeemed himself as his flying header found a way past Debjit Majumder.
“I cannot describe my feelings at that moment (after scoring the goal). I am very happy to score the goal (the winner) and help the team to get one point. It’s really good for me and the team,” said Lalrinliana Hnamte, during an interaction with the SC East Bengal media team.
The youngster missed a sitter against ATK Mohun Bagan in the Kolkata Derby and was very upset about it. Even head coach Mario Rivera revealed that Hnamte was upset about the miss and wanted t make a mark in their match against Chennaiyin FC. The youngster showed great character and determination and left a great mark on the game by scoring the equaliser as SC East Bengal scripted a sensational comeback. Even the senior players were very impressed with the youngster’s performance.
“They said good. I had a lot of missed chances in the match against Hyderabad FC, they advised me to strike in one touch, then only I would be able to score goals. And I have to keep going like this,” the youngster revealed.
SC East Bengal are 10th in the ISL points table and are looking to build some momentum in the future games and climb up the points table.
