ISL 2024-25: Saul Crespo absent, Anirudh Thapa in doubt for Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal clash

The East Bengal have already suffered a blow after losing Saul Crespo's services against Mohun Bagan

ISL 2024-25: Mohun Bagan Super Giants experienced a major setback ahead of the Kolkata derby as their midfielder Anirudh Thapa sustained an injury on January 8 (Wednesday), putting doubt on his availability for the Mohun Bagan vs. East Bengal Indian Super League (ISL) match.

In a report by SportStar, it is learned that Thapa attempted a heel leap during training but ended up injuring his right foot and leaving the pitch early. Mohun Bagan has not revealed any information on the injury as it awaits a checkup slated for the evening. Speaking more about Anirudh Thapa in ISL, he is the former captain of Chennaiyin FC. Thapa joined Mohun Bagan back in June 2023 and has played 50 matches for the club, scoring four goals and providing two assists. He played in the Mariners’ last two games, which the Kolkata team won.

Crespo also out of Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal

Meanwhile, the East Bengal have already suffered a blow after losing Saul Crespo’s services against Mohun Bagan as the midfielder suffered a left hamstring injury against Chennaiyin FC on January 7. East Bengal coach Oscar Bruzon has confirmed that his team will be without Crespo for almost a month.

Very suitable? No, it is impossible for four weeks. “He started running last week, so it’s going to take time,” Bruzon said. We have Jackson (Singh) and Souvik (Chakrabarty) as midfielders—obviously it depends on the opponent – whether we need to defend more or whether we need to attack more,” he added.

Speaking more about Crespo in ISL, he joined East Bengal in 2023 and has so far scored 10 goals with two assists for the club after winning the Super Cup with Odisha FC and has played a more defensive role than the forward under Bruzon.
