Ahead of the start of the Indian Super League (ISL2023-24), Kolkata giants East Bengal unveiled their away jersey for this season in a unique fashion.
The club released a video on their social media to unveil the jersey. The video featured East Bengal boss Carles Cuadrat sporting a completely Bengali look. The East Bengal boss can be seen in a white ‘Dhuti-Kurta’ reading a newspaper. Cuadrat’s look was completed with geeky glasses. A radio can be seen placed beside Cuadrat, mostly to give the setting a nostalgic look.

A second character is introduced in the video. This character brings out a Hilsa fish from a bag and shows it to the East Bengal boss who looks immediately impressed. The video ends with Cuadrat juggling a ball while wearing the away jersey with a Hilsa in hand.

Notably, Hilsa, a premier fish, is generally associated with East Bengal FC, similar to how Prawns are associated with Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
East Bengal will kick off their ISL 2023-24 season against Jamshedpur FC on September 25, 2023 at the Salt Lake Stadium.
East Bengal FC have made some big inroads after signing Carles Cuadrat. Nandhakumar Sekar, Prabhsukhan Singh Gill, Harmanjot Singh, Javier Siverio, Saul Crespo, and Borja Herrera have joined the Red and Gold Brigade. They finished second in the Durand Cup 2023, beating arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the Group stage. However, Cuadrat’s men fell short in the final against the same opponents, missing the trophy by a whisker.
East Bengal finished ninth in the ISL rankings last season with 19 points from 20 games. The Red and Gold Brigade will play Carles Cuadrat’s previous squad in Bengaluru in their first away match on October 4.
