Earlier this month, Nigerian forward Igboun left the club citing poor facilities and infrastructure provided by the club. In its official statement, the club stated: “The Club would like to state on record that all requests made by the player, no matter how unreasonable, were met. Despite this the player’s behaviour was unbecoming and incredibly unprofessional.” The club also shared a statement from the Head coach, Marco Balbul. “This behaviour was on display even before he left unannounced as whilst he was at the club, he would frequently miss training sessions. This for me is an indication that the player never wanted to play”, Balbul said.

Nigerian forward Sylvester Igboun left the club under strange circumstances. It was a sudden exit and certainly caught everyone by surprise. Igboun was the club’s sixth foreigner for the season and his departure caused quite a stir within the club.

Sources close to Igboun revealed that the Nigerian left the club facilities due to poor accommodation. He was very disappointed to see the state of place that the club provided him. Igboun had joined the club on a one-year deal but was quite late to arrive as he was stuck in Russia due to visa issues. In fact, he wasn’t even available for selection for the club’s first two ISL games and departed after making just one competitive appearance.

Sylvester Igboun was a high-profile signing for NorthEast United and joined the club directly from Russian Premier League side Nizhny Novgorod. His sudden departure certainly put the club officials to shame and left the fans utterly disappointed. Initially, there were allegations that even other players aren’t happy with the accommodation provided by the club. The Guwahati-based club previously accommodated their players and staff at Radisson Blu, a five-star hotel in the city. However, this year, the players are being accommodated in flats near the stadium.
