ISL 2021-22: Shree Cement confirms they will not clear dues of seven former players as the future of the club goes into limbo

East Bengal Mess: Recently, seven former East Bengal players in Keegan Pereira, Rino Anto, CK Vineeth, Girik Khosla, Eugeneson Lyngdoh, Cavin Lobo and Anil Chavan have appealed to the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) player status committee to have their dues cleared by the club. Overall, the club owes a combined sum of INR 1.42 crore to these seven players.

However, Shree Cement has confirmed they will not be clearing off this sum for the players were not signed by them but by the existing club officials.

We will not. Those players were signed by East Bengal. The investor will respect the contractual obligations of the footballers signed by the SC East Bengal team management,” an SC East Bengal told Telegraph.

Here is how much the club owes each player:

  • Cavin Lobo – INR 41 lakhs
  • Rino Anto – INR 26 lakhs
  • CK Vineeth – INR 21 lakhs
  • Eugeneson Lyngdoh – INR 21 lakhs
  • Keegan Pereira – INR 16.80 lakhs
  • Anil Chavan – INR 10.28 lakhs
  • Girik Khosla – INR 6.30 lakhs

East Bengal Mess: However, there might be adverse consequences in case of non-payment, for East Bengal will then be handed a transfer ban for three consecutive windows, unless they clear the dues.

Shree Cement to cut ties with East Bengal: Though the writing was already on the wall, Shree Cement has now confirmed that they will not be extending their ties with East Bengal following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.

Yes we will no longer be with East Bengal. We will give back the sporting rights as received by us in September 2020, because we do not want football and fans to suffer. It’s no point staying when the club has no intention to sign the final agreement,” the official said.
