After qualifying for the playoffs last season, NorthEast United are going through a rough patch this time around. They are ninth in the points table having accrued eight points from nine matches till now. While many may blame the head coach Khalid Jamil, the Indian tactician actually can only blame his luck.
The Highlanders lost their creative nucleus and fan favourite Federico Gallego for the remainder of the season after he suffered a knee injury. Coupled with that there have been questions on their Australian defender Patrick Flottmann and his performances. The centre back has often looked nervy and lacks the aura required to lead a backline.

On top of this Mathias Coureur made some scandalous tweets about his current state at the club and how he feels that the quality of Indian football is not at par with what he thought it would be. Coureur also tweeted that he is not happy at NorthEast United and wants to leave. So it will be interesting to see how the team management and head coach Khalid Jamil manage the situation with the Martinique international.

The 33-year-old forward was engaged in a debate with one of the fans where he even mentioned how India is not a footballing country and how people here don’t understand football.
Coureur joined NorthEast United this season and has registered a solitary goal along with two assists in nine matches this season. The Martinique forward comes with a lot of experience having plied his trade in teams from Spain, Georgia, Bulgaria, France, South Korea and many more.
Overall things are not looking good for NorthEast United and according to reports the club are only looking to get a replacement for Federico Gallego. However, with Camara missing and Coureur’s current state of mind, tough times await for the Highlanders.
