Inter Miami teammate Ian Fray has showered praise on Lionel Messi for his qualities beyond the football pitch. The Barcelona legend, who moved to Inter Miami this summer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, has been highly influential, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists in 14 appearances across different competitions.
“That’s what people should really know about Messi, the little things he does like that. Of course, the whole world gets to see the type of player he is and the things he can do with the ball at his feet. But he understands there is a lot more than that, and it is obvious he cares about his team-mates.” said Fray.
Fray, who unfortunately suffered an ACL injury on the same day Messi debuted for Inter Miami, is determined to recover and fulfill his dream of playing alongside the legendary Argentine. Despite not having the chance to share the pitch with Messi in competitive matches, Fray infact received a message from Messi after the latter scored a stunning winner on his debut for Inter Miami.
While Fray is yet to play alongside Messi for Inter Miami, he spoke in glowing terms about Messi’s impact off the field. Fray also expressed his excitement about being teammates with seasoned stars such as Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suarez.
“But at the same time, I haven’t had the full experience yet. I’ve watched, but I haven’t played alongside him, on the same team, in a proper game. That’s what I have to look forward to. And that’s what drives me now.”
I feel fortunate to be part of it, to be here at such an amazing time for the club and for American soccer, and to be able to see and train with and learn from (Lionel Messi) and these other great players.” Fray concluded.
With Messi committed to Inter Miami until 2025, including the option for a further 12-month extension, Fray has time on his side. Despite being 36 years old, Messi continues to perform at a high level, showing no signs of slowing down or contemplating retirement.
