Lionel Messi won his 8th Ballon d’Or and the world is still celebrating that win. It seems Inter Miami could not be any prouder with their star player. When Messi returned to the club after the award ceremony, he got the guard of honour from his teammates. Messi will probably present the award in their next match. However, that wasn’t enough for the MLS team who changed their logo and updated it on their social media account to celebrate Messi’s history-making win.
Lionel Messi won his history-making 8th Ballon d’Or on Monday. The world is still celebrating his win as is Inter Miami. The MLS club went out of their way to do everything possible for their star player. The club not only gave him a hero’s welcome back at the training ground, but they also temporarily changed the club logo to celebrate his extraordinary feat. The new logo has a similar design with ‘Felicidades’ written where ‘Club Internacional de Futbol’ could be seen. ‘Messi’ is written instead of where ‘Miami’ was written.
Where the year 2020 could previously be seen in Roman numerals ‘MMXX’, the Roman numerals for 8 – ‘VIII’ can be seen now. The herons in the middle have been changed to two goats as well. The outlines of the entire logo which were in pink have been changed to a golden colour in correspondence to the golden Ballon d’Or. Miami released a short video on their social media account after Messi’s Ballon d’Or win to introduce the new celebratory logo to their fans.
Inter Miami also gave Messi a grand welcome back in the United States. After Lionel Messi broke his own record by winning the 8th Ballon d’Or of his career, he flew back to Florida on the same night. He did not take any rest and went to the club the next morning to train for their upcoming friendlies. There he was welcomed by his teammates with a guard of honour and he was showered by confetti. Miami shared the celebratory pictures on their social media account.
Inter Miami’s season ended as they failed to qualify for the MLS play-offs this season. Messi arrived in late July. He started with their League’s Cup journey and helped them win the entire competition. That was the first-ever trophy Miami won in their short history. However, playing till early September on a regular basis with a 3-4 day gap finally got him. He got injured and had to be sidelined for quite some time. Miami couldn’t pick themselves up in the absence of their star player.
Hence, there will be a big break till Miami start their new season next year in February. However, they will play a few friendlies during the long break. Messi could present his record 8th Ballon d’Or to the Miami fans during one of those friendlies. The friendlies and the date of the presentation are yet to be decided. They had 2 friendlies scheduled to be played in China against Qingdao Hainiu and Chengdu Rongcheng in a few days. However, they confirmed a few hours ago that the China tour has been cancelled.
