India Women Football Team:  AIFF Meeting: According to the Strategic Roadmap Vision 2047 that was decided on January 7, 2023, the All India Football Federation decided to take steps to reform and restructure women’s football throughout the nation. The Hero Indian Women’s League (IWL) has to be updated in order to increase economic opportunities. India Women Football Team: New AIFF body delivers on its PROMISE, introduces historic minimum wage policy for IWL stars, revamps IWL structure -Check OUT

Decisions taken at the AIFF Meeting:

  • Starting with the upcoming season, female football players in the Indian Women’s League (IWL) would be paid a minimum of Rs. 3.2 lakh.
  • The top eight IWL teams would be required to field a minimum of 10 Indians on a minimum salary basis.
  • In addition to two additional divisions, the premier level will feature 10 clubs in 2024–25.
  • Plans call for a four-tier league, including the state leagues, in the 2025–26 season.

AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey said, “This was a landmark Executive Committee meeting, where crucial decisions were taken that would directly impact the future of football in India and take it in a direction that was elaborated by the Strategic Roadmap, Vision 2047. We have, collectively, as a team, deliberated on various challenges, gaps and have come up with projects and initiatives that will impact the future of Women’s Football, in a way that has not happened in India in the past.”

“The members of the Executive Committee are experienced, and with their wisdom, we were able to come up with solutions that will help us create a vibrant structure. We have taken decisions for the league structure of Women’s Football, minimum salary regulations, and we think this will attract more girls to play football and will help the growth of Women’s Football in India. Women’s Football in India will be able to move ahead to reach the global level.”

The top eight IWL-affiliated teams must have a minimum of 10 Indian players with fully professional annual contracts of at least Rs 3.2 lakhs starting in the upcoming season. The AIFF Executive Committee emphasised that it wanted to quickly grow the Hero IWL over the upcoming seasons in order to significantly strengthen women’s football in India. The 2025–26 season will include a four-tier league, with the last tier being the state leagues around the nation, as opposed to the 2024–25 season, which will feature 10 teams in the top level followed by two lower divisions.
