Out of IND vs WI tour, injured Shreyas Iyer supports Sunil Chhetri & Co in Bengaluru

Despite being injured and unable to participate in the IND vs WI tour, Shreyas Iyer showed his support for Sunil Chhetri & Co in Bengaluru.

Shreyas Iyer was spotted supporting the Indian football team during their SAFF Championship semifinal game against Lebanon on Saturday at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, before the IND vs WI series. Up until the conclusion of regulation time, Sunil Chhetri and company couldn’t break the scoreless tie.

Iyer last featured for the Indian squad against Australia at the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023. He is presently sidelined after suffering a stress fracture back in March.

The 28-year-old has subsequently had back surgery as a result of the persistent problem, and he is currently recovering from it at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru while getting back to full fitness.

Iyer found the time to travel to the Kanteerava Stadium when he was healing from a back problem, where India and Lebanon squared off for the third time in a month to determine who would advance to the SAFF Championship 2023 final. The Indian football team’s coach, Igor Stimac, was suspended from the game due to a red card he received against Kuwait, and the cricketer was observed sitting in the stands just behind him.

Mahesh Gawli, India’s assistant coach, is at the helm of the match against Lebanon because Stimac was suspended for two games following an altercation with a rival player.

Iyer was India’s leading run-scorer in ODI cricket last year, but he missed a significant amount of action in 2023 and was also unable to play in the IPL 2023 season owing to the same problem. Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Indian captain, was earlier seen watching India’s SAFF Championship match against Kuwait.
