According to sources, overseas players will be given the option of staying back in India till the league’s resumption or going back to the country in the meantime. What that means with regards to quarantine and flight restrictions remains to be seen.
Close to 50 positive tests were recorded and in the AIFF League Committee Meeting, it was decided that the next meeting to take stock of the situation would be held after a month.
“The League Committee, abiding by consensus of all the participating clubs as per the suggestion of Dr. Mahajan, ratified the decision to postpone the ongoing Hero I-League 2021-22 for at least 6 weeks. The League will have a review meeting after 4 weeks to take stock of the situation,” AIFF’s statement read.

On December 29, the I-League was first suspended following the first breach in its bio-bubble. Only six matches of the current I-League season were played — on December 26 and 27 — before it was suspended.
Thirteen teams are competing in this year’s I-League across three venues in and around Kolkata — the Mohun Bagan Ground, the Kalyani Stadium and the Naihati Stadium.
