As per the rules set by the AIFF League Committee, the next round of testing will be conducted on January 5 while the bio-bubble will remain in place till Friday with players likely to begin dispersing from the following day. However, for those who have tested positive, they will be in quarantine till a negative test following which they will be allowed to return home.

“The protocol of the bio bubble will continue till January 7, as all teams will be tested again on January 5, and teams can travel back to their respective destinations once they are tested negative. Players and officials who have tested positive in the team hotels who have already been isolated will be treated, and quarantined in Kolkata as per the health parameters laid down and will be allowed to leave the bubble after they test negative,” the AIFF statement read.

Most teams have begun booking to send their players back home. For Indian players, the situation is relatively simple. Head back home and await further instructions. But things might be complicated with foreign players.

According to sources, overseas players will be given the option of staying back in India till the league’s resumption or going back to the country in the meantime. What that means with regards to quarantine and flight restrictions remains to be seen.

Close to 50 positive tests were recorded and in the AIFF League Committee Meeting, it was decided that the next meeting to take stock of the situation would be held after a month.

“The League Committee, abiding by consensus of all the participating clubs as per the suggestion of Dr. Mahajan, ratified the decision to postpone the ongoing Hero I-League 2021-22 for at least 6 weeks. The League will have a review meeting after 4 weeks to take stock of the situation,” AIFF’s statement read.
