‘I had more fun with..’ Pjanic picks between Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo

Pjanic is one of those rare footballers who had a chance to play alongside both Messi and Ronaldo in Spain & Italy respectively

Miralem Pjanic has taken his pick in the Messi vs Ronaldo debate. The midfielder revealed that he has enjoyed playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo more than Lionel Messi. Pjanic has spent the majority of his time in Italy. He played for both Roma and Juventus, with his best spell at Juventus coming in 2018-2020, when he played 77 matches alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in two seasons.

At Juventus, Ronaldo and Pjanic achieved a remarkable level of success, winning two Serie A titles together. The Bosnian-Herzegovina international concluded his Juventus career with a total of 22 goals in 178 matches across all competitions.

Pjanic joined Barcelona from Juventus in summer 2020 for a fee of £52 million. Although he was able to play alongside Lionel Messi, his time at the Camp Nou was relatively unproductive and unimpressive. Pjanic made 30 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions in the 2020- 2021 season, but only 13 of those were starts, and he scored zero goals. He had signed a 4-year contract with Barcelona, but he left the club after the first season.

“I talk a lot with Cristiano Ronaldo. I have many memories with him, he is a great footballer. He’s the best I’ve ever played with. He is among the two, three strongest players in history,” Pjanic said in a recent interview.

“I was lucky enough to play with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and it’s hard to say who is stronger. However, I had more fun with Ronaldo than Messi,” the midfielder added.

Pjanic, who won the Copa del Rey with Barcelona, next joined Turkish club Beşiktaş on loan for the 2021-22 campaign. Following this, the former Lyon midfielder joined UAE Pro League club Sharjah FC in 2022 where he still plays to this day.

Over the years, Messi and Ronaldo have forged a legendary rivalry, which began when they played together in La Liga for Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively. They have been at the forefront of the GOAT discussion for more than a decade, with Messi and Ronaldo winning a record 12 Ballons d’Or between them.
